Antigonish Radio is a locally owned online radio network based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia — built on a simple idea: great music, a local connection, and something listeners can turn on and feel good about.

What started as a personal passion project has grown into a network of stations including 86.3 The Mix, Backroads 86.7, Oldies 86, and Rock 86 — each with its own sound and personality, while sharing the same goal: creating a warm, familiar listening experience that fits naturally into everyday life.

Our Story

Antigonish Radio began during a time when founder Darcy DeLorey was searching for something positive, structured, and creative to focus on. With a lifelong passion for radio, returning to it provided a renewed sense of purpose, direction, and connection.

What began as a single online station quickly evolved into something much bigger — a growing independent radio network built from the ground up. From learning the technical side of streaming and automation to building out a full studio operation, each step helped shape what Antigonish Radio is today.

At its core, the project has always been about connection — creating something meaningful for listeners while staying rooted in the local community.

Community Focus

Antigonish Radio is proud to support local events, organizations, businesses, and volunteer groups throughout the region. Community announcements and local happenings are shared regularly to help keep listeners informed and connected.

Darcy DeLorey spent more than two decades working in paramedicine. After being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), returning to radio became a way to reconnect with something creative, familiar, and meaningful.

That experience helped shape the foundation of Antigonish Radio. The stations are built around creating something steady, positive, and community-focused — both for listeners and for the people behind the scenes. It has also created a space where Darcy can continue building, creating, and staying connected in a balanced and sustainable way.

While opportunities in traditional radio weren’t available locally at the time, building Antigonish Radio became a way to continue doing what he loves — while creating something independent, modern, and community-driven.

We believe local radio still matters — and that even in a digital world, there’s real value in having something that feels close to home.
